Pulmonary Fibrosis is a lung disease (Interstitial Lung Disease or ILD). It is also known as IP  (Interstitial Pneumonia). The capacity of the lungs gets greatly diminished in this progressive fatal disease in which the lung tissue gets scarred. The patient is to be put on to oxygen or ventilator support. Once diagnosis is established, the prognosis is grim, very grim. In my case, the doctors suspect that my lung disease is most probably Idiopathic (of unknown origin) Pulmonary Fibrosis but without a biopsy they cannot be 100% sure… Man, I am scared out of my wits…..

I am scheduled for a Standard Three Port Video Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery at Fortis Vasant Kunj. They will probably remove a big chunk of my lung.

My chest still hurts. …But at least they now say that the disease is not IPF but is NSIP (Non Specific Interstitial Pneumonia). Dr Jayaswal of LRS TB Hospital Mehrauli will conduct more tests towards January end…
